What Is a Mastermind Group?

Regular Meetings
The group meets regularly for a period of at least 3 months, on bi-weekly or monthly basis. During these sessions, each participant has the opportunity to bring their question to the group.
Structure
All meetings are moderated and have a structure: opening, discussion part, and closing. All blocks are time-boxed, so everyone has equal opportunity to ask for help, contribute to others' questions and reflect on their learning.
Sharing Experience
Participants share their experiences: what worked or didn't work for them, how they handled similar challenges in the past or how they would approach it now.
When Mastermind Groups Are Helpful
Mastermind groups can serve different purposes and be used in a variety of ways:
  • Professional growth and sharing experience
Groups facilitate professional growth through the exchange of experiences. Each participant has the opportunity to bring their questions to the group: ask colleagues how they handled similar challenges in the past, seek feedback, or brainstorm ideas. Participants share what worked or didn't work for them and discuss how they would approach similar situations now.
  • Consistent movement to personal goals and skills mastery
Groups support employees in achieving their professional goals. Participants define their goals and select skills they want to master to address challenges in their daily tasks. The group helps them practice deliberately, keep focus, track progress, and celebrate achievements.
  • Supporting beginners
Support the growth of new team leaders, managers, or other key employees. These meetings provide them with an opportunity to share their challenges with colleagues, seek advice, receive support and learn from each other.
  • Enhancing trainings effectiveness
Groups help apply new skills during or after trainings. Participants choose which new skills to practice in their work situations, reflect on progress, share challenges with colleagues, and support each other on their learning journey.
  • Building connections and increasing engagement
Employees gain awareness of what's happening in other teams and departments. Such groups help building communities, foster stronger relations among employees, increasing their engagement. More recognized, engaged, and connected employees contribute to higher retention.
  • Implementing new processes
Regular group work is a valuable support when implementing new processes, initiatives and practices at the organizational level. It creates an opportunity for employees or change agents to share and discuss challenges, support each other in adopting new practices, and ensure a common understanding.
